Open Surgery

For more complex or recurring hernias, open surgery may be required to completely repair the condition. In this approach, an incision is made and the surgeon will repair the weakened muscle wall. Depending on the type of hernia, many people can have open hernia repair in an outpatient setting and go home the same day.

Dr. Mastrangelo will conduct a thorough analysis with diagnosis and detailed consultation to ensure open surgery is the appropriate treatment for the most optimal outcome. The BHC team provides all patients with compassionate pre and post operative support with detailed instructions and on-call services.

INPATIENT AND OUTPATIENT SURGERY

Most surgical procedures for hernias are performed in an outpatient setting at Bend Surgery Center or St. Charles Hospital where patients are able to go home after the surgery. If an inpatient stay is required, surgery is performed at St. Charles Hospital.
